The legend began in 1970 when Hot Shoppe opened its door in front of the late Sukhumvit Cinema. Like its namesake, it was similar to an American soda fountain serving fast food and takeaways, catering to moviegoers with a variety of tastes.
After the complex was destroyed by fire, the new Hot Shoppe was designed to be more of a family restaurant, offering a bright and airy, relaxing ambience. They also expanded their menu to include homecooked Thai as well as international fare such as Roti with Massaman curry and pizza as well as chef’s originals, like the signature Mustard dressing for the Crab Stick Salad.
All the dishes are prepared with the freshest ingredients, including the dough for all the baked goods that is rolled, kneaded and baked to meet customers’ orders. As this has been a family enterprise with the owner’s husband a respected, discerning food taster, the dishes are all quite delicious, pleasing the palates and taste buds of Thais and foreigners alike.
Dishes we recommend include Hoy Tord, a crispy omelette filled with mussels served with a sour chilli sauce, Pad Thai, stir-fried noodles with diced tofu, tiny dried shrimp, scallions and bean sprouts, Kanom Pakkard, pan-fried turnip cake, Kuay Tieaw Rad Na, a Cantonese-style stir-fried noodle dish served with a thick, syrupy gravy, slices of pork and Chinese kale, and Roti with Massaman curry, which blends Thai-and Indian-style curries and dry Indian spices.
The menu also includes a selection of Indian-influenced vegetarian dishes, which have become favourites among the regular vegetarian clientele.

Hot Shoppe also hosts Food Festivals throughout the year when the owner prepares special dishes for her family, which she also wants to share with diners. For example, in March and April, they served Khao Chae, cooked chilled rice soaked in iced water. This August, they are serving Kanom Jean Nam Prik, vermicelli served with a chilli paste sauce. These dishes are only available on certain days that will be announced beforehand.
